BankservAfrica's Chris Hamilton is all about youth development and education ahead of The CEO The SleepOut™
Updated | By Tando Ntunja
The importance of youth development and education cannot be overlooked when addressing a nation's development. CEO of BankservAfrica Chris Hamilton is a leader who lives for this cause.
Relatively 'fresh' out of Australia, BankservAfrica's CEO Chris Hamilton is looking forward to The Sun International CEO SleepOut™: “I have always worked in businesses that support the economy and the community in that sort of networked way, so it’s a natural event when you think about other ways in which you can support the community.”
Chris speaks more on the development angle of The Sun International CEO SleepOut™: “The charities that are being supported this year have got a very strong youth development theme to them: they are about youth education and youth empowerment and that’s a great theme and Bankserv already does a lot of work with schools and with young peoples’ groups of various kinds to try and contribute to society.”
Chris is the newly appointed CEO of BankservAfrica - Africa's largest automated payments clearing house and financial market infrastructure (FMI) provider to the financial services industry.
Until recently, he was the CEO of the Australian Payments Clearing Association (APCA), the payments industry association and self-regulatory body for Australian payments. Before that, Chris spent 11 years in senior roles at the Australian Stock Exchange.
Chris started working life as a commercial lawyer.
In his time at APCA, he helped form the EFTPOS (electronic funds transfer at point of sale) company, Australia's domestic debit card scheme, and oversaw the creation of the New Payments Platform Program, which is scheduled to deliver new, real-time, data-rich ubiquitous payments infrastructure for Australian payments in late 2017, using network technology supplied by Swift. He also worked to create, and served on, the Australian Payments Council, a joint public/private initiative to provide strategic direction in Australian payments.
