How would you describe your landing experience in the ‘Big Apple’ ?

We landed in New York early in the morning and I will never forget that feeling when the plane turned towards the runway and my husband and I got that first glimpse of the NY Skyline – all in gold as the sun was rising over the city! It’s a memory that will last forever.

What is the one place that anyone planning a trip to NY cannot miss?

Central Park! Walk through it, have lunch next to the fountain, stroll hand-in-hand over the famous bridge, lie on your back looking at the sun through the trees, cycle the path ways before feeding the ducks ….. or have cocktails at the well-known Boat House. It doesn’t matter what you do, be sure to make time for Central Park. The city buildings look different from every position in the park and you see something new wherever you turn.

Any strange habits, places, food, people that you came across in NY?

No one in New York is strange and yet everyone in New York is different. It really is the city where no-one will notice if you walk the streets naked! I loved all the impromptu performances on the tube. Wherever you get on a train, some-one has an instrument and is singing to his heart’s delight, hoping to get discovered. Strange food? I could not get enough of the toasted bagels ….. all those different spreads. I loved a toasted sesame bagel with walnut cream cheese. And if you want salmon – don’t dare call it that, in the Big Apple you ask for “lox”!?

Is the Wi-Fi connection in NY as great as they say it is?

You will be surprised to know they have the same Wi-Fi problems we have! It’s not freely available, they are reluctant to give the passwords in hotels and restaurants. And would you believe it or not – New Yorkers also complain about the cost of bandwidth and wi-fi connections!

What was your overall experience of your trip?

I loved every second of our ten days in the buzzing city that really doesn’t sleep. I was surprised by the breath taking architecture that you see in every nook and crook of every building. You just need to look up – where ever you are – and you will see it. New York doesn’t need any make up. As you see it on TV and in the movies, is really what it looks – and sounds – like. I now understand why New Yorkers go on holiday ….. in New York. Who can blame them?

Any advice for someone planning a trip to NY?

However much money you take, it’s not enough! Whatever the size of your camera, it’s not big enough for all the photos. Go with an empty suitcase! And go with someone you love so that you share the experience.
