African National Congress (ANC)
veteran Tokyo Sexwale says the late Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was a courageous
woman.
Madikizela-Mandela passed away at Milpark hospital in Johannesburg on Monday at the age of 81.
Sexwale says a lot can be learned from Madikizela-Mandela’s life.
"The positive thing that she did things that she did for women, for the unwashed mess because she was the mother of that nation, the poor or the poorest and of course the struggle for social justice."

Sexwale adds that Madikizela-Mandela will remain important to the people of Africa long after her death and that the onus is now on us to carry on with her legacy.
He says Madikizela-Mandela was a pioneer of women struggles in the country.
"She was a pioneer; she was a woman among women, a leader among leaders."
Sexwale says irrespective of Madikizela-Mandela's shortcomings, she was always focused on the plight of the nation.
"She never betrayed our people, everything that she did even the mistakes, she did it for our people.
"We have to keep the candle alive."
