Madikizela-Mandela passed away at Milpark hospital in Johannesburg on Monday.

"South Africa has lost a leader, a hero but also a mother to all people," said Shabangu.

Shabangu said she was lucky enough to have been able to share some great times with Mam' Winnie.

"She was a very vocal person. I know from when I was a young child from Orlando East and she was living in Orlando West. I even admired her during the times she was banned," she said. "She would pass along the Orlando Library driving in a small Volkswagen. She was a very beautiful woman who was so strong at all times. So we will miss her. I think for SA we are lucky to have a woman who was as fearless as Winnie and I think she will continue to inspire many South Africans."

Dozens of people gathered outside Madikizela-Mandela's home n Soweto on Tuesday.

A small group of African National Congress' Women League (ANCWL) members arrived in the morning, with the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema, also set to pay his respects.
