Good Morning Angels: A helping hand to our senior citizens in Emalahleni

Immergroen Old Age Home in Emalahlani has been a safe haven and home for senior citizens for over 100 years.

BACKGROUND: Currently, the home has more than 120 senior citizens, with 78 of these residents living in the assisted-living and frail care units. Residents pay for their accommodation with their pension funds or are assisted by children and family.

With the economic strain brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, many residents of Immergroen are stranded, as many families lost their income and are unable to keep up with payments. Babs Wentzel, who has been working at Immergroen for the past 24 years, says she’s never seen anything like this. The home is doing the best it can to provide care to its special residents despite the financial difficulty, but they are in desperate need of medical equipment, medication, and adult nappies - which are very costly. To make matters worse, their industrial tumble dryer is now on the blink and they simply do not have the funds to have it repaired - which means laundry has become a very challenging task.
