Heavy rain and wind cause damage in Cape Town

On Monday, strong wind and a deluge of heavy rain marked the start of intense cold front in the Western Cape.

Cape Town was hit hard by gale-force winds and large ocean swells with huge amounts of sea foam washing onto the promenade in Sea Point.

Nearly 20 roads across the city have flooded and are still being attended to by Cape Town Roads and Stormwater.

Massive waves engulfed Sea Point, resulting in Beach Road being closed for the safety of residents and motorists.

Trees were uprooted and flooding in some areas resulted in schools and other structures being destroyed in Strand.
