Piano prodigy, 18, wows with incredible skills
On Thursday, Breakfast with Martin Bester celebrated some astounding IEB matric results and had an 18-year-old piano prodigy perform live.
Breakfast with Martin Bester spoke to 18-year-old prodigy Samuel Hertz from Redhill School in Johannesburg on Thursday regarding the IEB matric results.
"I was in a heightened state of shock and anxiety, and then the SMS came through…because there is so much pressure around matric marks on on the students."
Herts received a 96% average with 11 distinctions, of which ten were above 90%.

The 18-year-old also believes that many high achievers are well-rounded in terms of doing extra mural activities and school work.
He believes this is due to the discipline sport and the arts teaches kids.
Herts himself is also a skilled piano player.
On Thursday, he wowed the Breakfast team with his amazing piano skills when he played Prelude No 7 (homage to Bartok) by Thomas Rajna live.

Breakfast with Martin Bester also spoke to Carlisle Hartman from Cornwall Hill College after he passed his matric year with 14 distinctions, with his lowest mark being 80%.
The 18-year-old was also head boy during his matric year, as well as a first-team hockey star.
Part of his distinctions included core maths and two electors.

Asking about the controversy around physics question two in the matric exams, Hartman just said that he couldn’t even recall the question.
The toughest test, says Hartman, was his driving test.
"But in all seriousness, the most difficult subject was probably science." The easiest one, he says, was IT.
Hartman and his family are currently in America, where they were looking at possible universities, but he made the decision to rather return to South Africa and further his studies here.
"It's too far from home, and I get along here, and all my friends are in South Africa."
