According to Jacaranda FM News, West Food Processors recalled 400g canned pilchards over the weekend, citing faulty canning which could ultimately lead to consumers falling ill.

Affected brands include Cape Point and Saldana, Shoprite Rite brand, Checkers Housebrand, U-Brand, and OK Housebrand.

The commission’s deputy commissioner Thezi Mabuza said the proper guidelines were not followed by West Food Processors when recalling the items.

Martin Bester is a big lover of pilchards.

Deonne van Aarde, the regional manager for Lucky Star pilchards, joined Breakfast with Martin Bester to discuss the issue.

"There is no problem with our product. We have a great brand. Pilchards are high in Omega 3 and it's high in protein," Van Aarde said.
