The topic of creating live-action adaptations of famous Disney animations has been polarising, to say the least, but that doesn't seem to stop entertainment companies from making them anyway.

The latest live-action that has people talking isn't necessarily a new adaptation of an animation, but rather a prequel to 'The Lion King'.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 'Mufasa: The Lion King' will be both an origin story for the beloved king of the jungle as well as a follow-up to the 2019 live-action adaptation of ‘The Lion King’.

The music-filled movie will hear the return of superstar Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, voicing Simba's Queen, Nala.

Blue Ivy Carter, the daughter of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, will also be making her film debut, voicing Kiara, the daughter of King Simba and Queen Nala.

On Monday, Disney, the entertainment giant known for some of the best animations and films in the world, released the first trailer for the brand-new movie.

Directed by Barry Jenkins, the film is set to hit theatres on December 20 2024.

The official synopsis is as follows: "'Mufasa: The Lion King' enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick. Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone, until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka — the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny — their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe."
