Good Morning Angels: A new arm for a budding para-cycling star

It's the final instalment of the Good Morning Angels Festive Edition with Roman's Pizza and the Angels assisted young para-cycling star, Sibonakaliso Mbatha, with a new arm to further his cycling career.

BACKGROUND:  Sibonakaliso Mbatha from Soshanguve is in Grade 8 and a rising star. “I see a future world champ in him,” says Mam’ Thandi Skosana, the founder and manager of the Soshanguve Youth Cycling and Athletics Club. And she has every reason to believe so.

Sibonakaliso has participated in several national and provincial races. He won the Gauteng Para-cycling Championship in 2021 and ended second in the SA Championship. Sibonakaliso competes in the para-division as he has only one arm and Mam’ Thandi believes he can do even better. Because of his disability, Sibona’s posture when riding is compromised - but this is not holding him back to give it his all.

It does cause great strain and pain in his back and Mam’ Thandi believes a prosthetic arm will go a long way to enable him to improve his riding position, performance, and general quality of life. His parents are not in a financial position to afford the prosthesis and that’s why Mam’ Thandi wrote to Good Morning Angels for assistance.
