BACKGROUND: 20-year-old Neo Maile is a born and bred Jo’burger. She grew up in the gritty streets of Berea and Hillbrow. Neo is a star member of the Organisation, Mould Empower Serve (M.E.S) Joshua’s, who serve their community by mentoring and tutoring school children in the heart of Jo’burg. Although Neo matriculated with excellent marks in 2018 and has been selected to study Human Sciences or Education at UJ or Wits, she has not been able to start her studies, due to funding issues. After her year serving the community of Hillbrow as part of the M.E.S Joshua Programme, Neo desperately wants to start her tertiary studies this year, to secure a better future for herself and her family.

ORIGINAL REQUEST:

Dear Good Morning Angels,

Neo Megan Maile is one of the 14 M.E.S Joshua’s, serving as mentors, tutors and “big sisters and brothers” to the 80 school children from Grades 1 - 12, in the M.E.S After School Programme in Hillbrow. The Joshua’s support and lead the children after school and during school holidays. Here, the children of the poorest of the poor find a safe space to do their homework, play, be children and receive a nutritious meal, all basic needs that cannot always be fulfilled at home.

The M.E.S After School Programme and Joshua Youth Leadership Development Programme are two programmes managed by M.E.S that aims to empower youth to make informed life decisions, offering them an opportunity to see beyond poverty and gain access to economic opportunities.

Neo has been a Joshua for 2019 and her dream is to further her education.

She matriculated with excellent marks in 2018 and has been selected, but funding remains her biggest stumbling block.

It would be a wonderful endorsement of the person she is and the work she has done in the community, if you could assist in finding her funding to start her studies in 2020.

Please see Neo’s profile below:

My name is Neo Megan Maile, I am 20 years of age. I live in Hillbrow and I am currently doing an internship at the MES organisation in Hillbrow. My reason for this letter is to let you know that I have a great passion for Education and people,  and it would give me great joy if you will be able to help me pursue my career.

Reason I need funding for this course is because, firstly my mother’s finances aren’t enough to take me to school let alone pay for my registrations at school. My father is not in my life, so I do not depend on him for financial support.

I really hope you will consider my application for a bursary,

Thank you in advance.
