Helping a blind woman pick up the pieces after a house fire
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
The Good Morning Angels assisted Elize Barnard with the funds needed to cover the cost of putting up a new roof, as well as repairing the electricity, paint, and other damage and loss to the value of R100,000!
Elize Barnard, 63, lives in a small house in Pretoria West. She shares her home with her daughter and three grandchildren, as well as her long-time friend, Sophie, and her daughter.
Elize is blind and worked as a Supervisor at the Pretoria Workshop for the Blind in Silverton. All of the people who live with her are visually or mentally challenged, but together - in this 50 square meter home - they all found a refuge.

Disaster struck in August when a fire broke out in the home and 80% of the house burnt down.
Most of what they owned was lost. The walls of the house are still stable and with the help of their community and friends, they now live in the small lounge and a wendy house on the property.
Two of these friends, Emmie and Willie Boshoff, who ran the Pretoria Workshop for the Blind where Elize worked, have rallied their church group and friends to assist Elize and her family in their time of need.
They managed to get food, clothes, and linen, some borrowed furniture, and managed to clean up the debris, but now they need to put a new roof on the structure. They’ve managed to get an electrician to help out - but first the new roof has to be put up - before the rain starts.

This will cost around R35,000, which they simply cannot afford, and that's why Emmie and Willie reached out to Good Morning Angels.
