Those who have been assisted by Sister Mariekie Meyer are all in agreement: she’s an angel on Earth.

Mariekie is one of those very special people who lives to serve. She’s dedicated her life to taking care of the most vulnerable little humans: premature babies.

As a Neo-natal night nurse for many years, Mariekie has brought love, hope, peace of mind, and so much more to hundreds of distraught parents by guarding over their premature babies.

One of these moms, Lia Nascimento, remembers how Mariekie helped her when her son was born in December 2015, weighing only 500 grams: "She helped nurse our micro prem baby to health for 171 days.

"We took him home on 15 June 2016. On the day he 'graduated' out of NICU she cut out and made decor to celebrate his graduation day. She even visited him at home to check and see how he was doing and brought him a lovely gift. To say she goes above and beyond is an understatement.”

A group of moms and friends of Mariekie have reached out to Good Morning Angels to assist this selfless, loving “Angel” in her time of need.

Mariekie has no family of her own. She took care of both her parents until they passed away. She was diagnosed with CVID  - Common Variable Immunodeficiency - and has been placed on temporary disability leave due to her condition and will only be able to resume her work on completion of treatment. This is where she needs help.

This urgent treatment will cost R36,000 - which Mariekie cannot afford. Due to her ill-health, her medical aid has been depleted and the longer she waits, the worse her health and financial situation will get.

As I am typing this to you my eyes fill with tears thinking of all Sister Mariekie Meyer has done for my family and I. My little boy, MIcah was born at 26 weeks and 500 grams on 28 Dec 2015. She was one of the most amazing night nurses….the best one I have met. A true angel on earth. In the darkest of times she gave us hope. She has a heart of gold, and a true passion for what she does. She helped nurse our micro prem baby to health for 171 days and we took him home in15 June 2016. On the day he “graduated” out of NICU she cut out and made decor to celebrate his graduation day. We took him back to the NICU on his first birthday (in a superman onesie) and she was thrilled to see him. She even visited him at home to check and see how he was doing and brought him a lovely gift. To say she goes above and beyond is an understatement. He is now a healthy, caring, clever, full of life 7year old boy in Grade 1.

7 years later we had a little baby girl born at 35 weeks. Who she cared for 2 weeks in NICU. To this day I still get motivational quotes and prayers sent to me almost every day. We can never repay her for what she did for us but maybe now is our chance to help in some way

You see Sister Mariekie was diagnosed with CVID  - Common Variable Immunodeficiency.  Being asthmatic and already immunodeficient she has further increased risk of digestive disorders and blood disorders. But she gets up each and every day and goes to work with her suitcase (containing her treatment) with a nasal cannula and mask and says God is good, God will provide. If that is not inspirational I’m not sure what is. She is an inspiration to all who have the pleasure of meeting her.

Now she is urgently in need of Polygam treatment to strengthen her body's natural defence system (immune system) to lower the risk of further infection. She works in a neonatal intensive care unit, but was placed on temporary disability leave due to her condition and will only be able to resume her position on completion of this treatment.

She received a quotation for only 2 sessions – R9000 each, but due to her exhausted benefits, her claim was rejected by her Medical Aid.  For hope in a normal life and return to her work that is so dear to her, she is in urgent need of four Polygam treatments. This will cost R36 000.

Mariekie says: “In my line of work I see every day parents experiencing uncertainty, emotional and psychological stress and fear for the survival of their newborn infant, but I also see by seeking God through prayer and worship, He is always ready and able to perform miracles. And today I will not stop seeking God, because I know He is ready to help me.
This is a very emotional situation for me, I know times are tough, but I thank each and every person who cares and is always there for me, and willing to donate to my cause."
Sincerely
Mariekie Meyer

Please, I ask if you can help her in ANY way by donating big or small…every little bit counts. She deserves this more than anyone I know. Let’s try repay her for all her good deeds🙏🏻

Kindest Regards,
Lia Nascimento

Mariska

Good day,

I realise you do receive a million email requests daily for assistance, but we really need your help in helping this ANGEL!!

I’ve met Mariekie in Nov 2020 when my son was prematurely born at 25 weeks, where is working as a night nurse to care for our little babies when we cannot do so ourselves.

Mariekie is an absolute angel, she prayed with and for me and my son on a daily basis, she gave me hope when I had none. She shared her coffee and her stories with me late at night when I was crying next to my son's incubator. She kept on saying over and over again our God is good all the time, and oh man our GOD IS A GOOD GOD.

She gave me hugs and love and smiles and treated my baby with the utmost care and love. She is an angel walking between us normal beings, I couldn’t understand how she can be so positive all the time when she was going through hell on a daily basis due to her rare and expensive illness, but somehow she managed to just lift everybody’s spirits every day.

I would like to nominate Mariekie Meyer, a NICU nurse.

Marietjie was an angel sent to me and my son during lockdown in 2020. My son was born premature at 31 weeks weighing only 1.5kg.

During lockdown, I was not able to go home after having my baby - if I did go home, I had to leave my baby at the hospital and could only see him when he got discharged.  Of course I did not take that option, I decided to stay in hospital with my baby. I lodged in the hospital for 6 weeks, visiting my son only everyday 3 hours 24/7.  As you can imagine this was the most difficult and emotional time of my entire life. I was not able to see my husband as he could not come and visit.  He held his son for the first time after 5 weeks when they lowered the stage of lockdown to level 1.

Marietjie was my strength in hospital.  Guiding, supporting and loving us in those extremely challenging 6 weeks.

She's an angel sent to those babies and mothers in the NICU, so I feel the need to support her to get her back to her calling.
