A new electric wheelchair and a world of mobility for Thabo
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
Roman’s Pizza and Good Morning Angels assisted Thabo’s family with R30,000 to buy him the electric wheelchair he needs to improve his mobility and life!
Thabo Malimi, 14, was born with a disability in three of his limbs, with only his left arm fully operational.
He was two years old when Jeanine, who herself is a quadriplegic, and her husband, Tokkie, were asked by Social Services in Whiteriver if they would consider giving Thabo a home.
They adopted him without question.
Thabo had no language ability, but it wasn’t long before his life turned around. Today he is a well-spoken, witty 14-year-old, who crawls and sails where he wants to be.
His parents have divorced and he now lives with his dad in Witpoort near Wolmaranstad in the North West, while Jeanine is still in Sabie in Mpumalanga. But they are still bonded by Thabo and his needs always come first.
Thabo has been assisted with a manual wheelchair, but he struggles with only one arm to operate this on his own. Jeanine says besides the discomfort, his clothes get ruined because Thabo cannot sit still.
That’s why a friend of the family reached out to Good Morning Angels to help to get Thabo an electric wheelchair.

ORIGINAL REQUEST:
Good Morning
Trust you are well.
I’m writing this mail to request for assistance for an electric wheelchair for Thabo ( photo attached) below is a little bit about Thabo and his mother who adopted him (she is also disabled and a quadriplegic)
We really want to make his life a little bit easier and more mobile but we haven’t got the funds to help him
Will you please consider in helping Thabo?
From his adoptive mom, Jeanine: During my stay in Sabie, we had a visit from Everson from child welfare in White river. They had a strange but desperate request. They had 2-Year-old boy that was spastic in both his legs and one arm. Since we were involved in assisting people with disabilities and difficulties we were asked if we would take the little boy in our care. We realised this was a test to the seriousness of our calling and agreed. That was the beginning off a twelve-year journey with my son Thabo Malimi. Thabo had a spastic disability in three of his limbs with only his left arm fully operational. He was 2 years old and could not converse in any language. He had no mobility and Even with physiotherapy, there were very little improvement in his disabled limbs. Even with all the disadvantages he grew up to become a well-spoken witty young man now 14 years old. His lack of mobility is still his biggest problem and cause massive wear and tear on his clothes since he moves himself around in a sitting position with one arm. Shifting from point A to B. He has acquired a manual wheel with which he can move around with great difficulty with his one operational arm. He is a young man that loves rugby, cricket and tending to animals. Acquiring a motorize wheelchair at this time of his life will improve his quality of life tremendously. And will be a dream come true for him.
Thank you,
Adele Stanhke
