Plan your leave around public holidays in 2018
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
Want to know how you can maximise your leave in 2018? We have the solution to make a few days feel like a proper holiday.
The new year is only two months old, yet so many of us are already looking towards our next holiday.
If you need a proper break then you might want to make note of which days this year's public holidays fall on.
Plan your leave around these days, and it will feel like you are on a proper vacation.
Planning your leave smartly means you can spend more time travelling with your family (check out 10 Visa-free countries to visit in 2018), relaxing in bed and getting some much-needed rest.
Here’s a look at how you can structure your leave to make your long weekends longer.
The first long weekend for the year is just around the corner, so start planning now before it’s too late.
Easter long weekend
Good Friday : March 30
Family Day (Monday) : April 2
Option one: Take Thursday the 29th off as well as Tuesday, April 3rd and score a 6-day long weekend.
Option two: Take four days' leave from Tuesday, April 3, to Friday April 6 and get 10 days off before you have to go back to work. The school holidays fall during the week, and this might be a better option for parents.
Freedom Day & Workers Day
Freedom Day (Friday) : April 27
Workers Day (Monday) : May 1
Take Thursday the 26th off as well as Tuesday, May 2nd and score a 6-day long weekend.
Heritage Day
Heritage (Monday) : September 24
Take Friday the 21st off and score a 4-day long weekend.
Day of Reconciliation
Day of Reconciliation : December 16 (falls on a Sunday, holiday carried over to Monday)
Take Friday the 14th off as well as Tuesday, December 18 and score a 5-day long weekend.
You can also create your own long weekends.
Human Rights Day
Human Rights Day (Wednesday) : March 21
Take two days of leave on Monday (March 19) and Tuesday (March 21) before the holiday. This means you will be off from Saturday, March 17 to Wednesday, March 21. That's five days at home from just two leave days
Women's Day
Women's Day (Thursday) : August 9
Take Friday the 10th off as well as Monday, August 13, and get five days off.
Christmas Day & Day of Good Will
Christmas Day (Tuesday) : December 25
Day of Good Will (Wednesday) : December 26
You know the drill by now. Take Monday the 24th off, and create your own long weekend.
If you want a longer break, take Thursday (December 27) and Friday (December 28) off as well. That's 9 days off until Sunday, December 30, from just three leave days.
You're welcome!
