Olivia Rodrigo is not called the breakup anthem queen for nothing.

The singer says experiencing some of her relationships coming to an end has helped her produce some of her best music that has  topped charts and won awards.

In an interview with Pitchfork‘s Over/Under YouTube series, Olivia was asked whether heartbreak was overrated or underrated.

"I'm actually gonna go with underrated. I feel like if I never endured any heartbreak in my life I wouldn't be half the person I am today and I wouldn't know myself near as well or have really any of my songs," she said during the interview.

One of Olivia's biggest song is her debut single, 'Drivers License' which was released in 2021 and won a Grammy.

Talking about the inspiration behind the song, Olivia told CBSSunday Morning that it was written when she was going through her first heartbreak.

"I was a 17-year-old girl going through my first real heartbreak. But I think a lot of people also think, listening to my music, that I'm really a sad, depressed person, and that couldn't be farther than the truth. It's fun to write about stuff like that," she said during the interview.

She also told CBS that she has been writing about heartbreak even before she started dating.

"I wrote heartbreak songs before I had ever had a boyfriend, honestly," she said.

"I've just always been obsessed with that feeling. And I think there's nothing more painful, as a human being, than that feeling of loss," she told CBS.

Olivia has dated actor Ethan Wacker and producer Adam Faze.

When asked by Pitchfork if she would get back with any of her exes, the 20-year-old said: "You guys, the sequel’s never as good as the original. Never.”
