Updated | By MornéJK
As part of the Our Voices series in the run-up to the Local Government Election on Wednesday, Pieter van der Merwe visited Tembisa on the East Rand to speak to the residents.
Residents of Tembisa, north of Kempton Park on Johannesburg's East Rand are ready for the 2016 municipal elections.
Tembisa is a large township situated to the north of Kempton Park on the East Rand, Gauteng, South Africa.
It was established in 1957 when black people were resettled from Alexandra and other areas in Edenvale, Kempton Park, Midrand and Germiston. Wikipedia
The township was plagued by a spate or service delivery protests in recent months.
In April 2016 residents took to the streets, complaining that the process used to distribute RDP houses is not fair.
Last week hundreds of people were let destitute after a tornado ravaged through the area.
The Ekurhuleni Metro and other partners had to step in and help people rebuild their house, while some lost everything they owned.
