Seven people cast vote at polling station in Vuwani

The IEC in Limpopo says voter turnout at polling stations in Vuwani were exceptionally low with only seven people voting at one of the voting stations in the area.

Vuwani residents vowed not to make their mark in the local government election. 


They're unhappy with the Municipal Demarcation Board's decision to incorporate them into a new municipality with Malamulele.


Violence broke out in Vuwani in May with more than 25 schools torched and vandalised. Schooling has been severely disrupted - with classes at many schools still not having fully resumed.


A soccer tournament was held in Vuwani on voting day.

As at around 09:00 on Thursday, the IEC in Limpopo's Nkaro Mateta says they had captured and concluded 32% of the province's results.  


The ANC is leading so far, followed by the EFF and DA, she confirmed.


"The ANC is fluctuating at 58% and 62%. The results of the bigger municipalities must still be declared."


The EFF's Jossey Buthane says that the party is confident that it'll do well and that they would be happy with any result.


"Any number to us is very important. We are contesting with the ANC that has more than hundred years and the DA that has sixteen years."
