WATCH: UP suspends classes, locks gates as students protest
Updated | By Samkele Maseko
The University of Pretoria suspended classes and locked their gates on Friday.
University management beefed up security and restricted access to the Tuks campus.
This comes after students belonging to the EFF Student Command threatened to shut down the institution in a call to remove Afrikaans as a medium of instruction at UP. They were also calling for the language policy to be overhauled.
Students have ignored a court interdict against them protesting on campus after an anti-Afrikaans protest turned violent late on Thursday.
