What not to buy your Secret Santa
Updated | By Tamlyn Canham
It is that time of the year again. A time where Christmas presents need to be bought and the pressure that goes along with that intensifies. What to do, what to do?
While we all know how difficult it can be to buy for family members, it gets even more difficult when you have to buy for a Secret Santa at work.
Now that's pressure!
Fear not, though, we are here to help you. Here we list five things to consider when tasked with purchasing for your office Secret Santa.
1 - Allergies
Make sure you know of any allergies the person you are buying for may have. It is important to then avoid any body products or edible treats that they may be allergic to. You don't want to send them to hospital for Christmas.
2 - Sizes
Don't go and buy a small top for a person who wears extra-large, and vice versa. You will embarrass the person, as your perception of their size is very different to the reality. Try and find out what size the person wears and buy appropriately.
3 - Interests
Don't go and buy someone a Star Wars DVD when they are not fans of the movies. Find out a bit more in terms of the person's interests, and that will help you to come to a decision on what to buy them.
4 - Age-Appropriate Gift
We all want to stay young forever, but sadly, that cannot happen. Therefore, ensure that you buy your Secret Santa recipient something that is in line with their age. Don't buy a 20-year-old soap on a rope, or a 60-year-old a skinny-fit T-shirt. Think before you purchase.
5 - Don't Be Offensive
While you may enjoy a good laugh, what you find funny someone else may find offensive. Don't buy gag gifts unless you know the person VERY well. Rather play it safe to keep the peace in the office - and, potentially, HR off your back.
