The 65-year-old reality TV star, who was known as Bruce Jenner before undergoing gender transition in May, reportedly filed court documents at Los Angeles County Superior Court today (15.09.15) asking a judge to formally declare her a female.

But the former Olympian is said to be afraid of providing the necessary information, such as her medical records, to the court to secure the judgement because of physical threats she has received, according to legal papers obtained by gossip website TMZ.com.

Aside from requesting an official recognition of her gender change, Caitlyn is also asking for an official name change.

A source close to the 'I Am Cait' star revealed she has asked the judge to seal her private information because while she has received a lot of support, she has also been the target of threats of physical harm and is scared they will escalate if the information leaks.

Caitlyn recently celebrated her new identity at a renaming ceremony on the season finale of her E! series and admitted she finally feels she "fits in" and can be her "authentic self".

She said: "It has been an amazing journey, and I'm seeing all of it come true.

"I'm in a great place in life and, for the first time, I feel like I fit in some place. Being my authentic self. Thank you."
