The Television Academy handed out some early gongs in Los Angeles - ahead of next week's Primetime Emmy Awards - and the HBO fantasy drama collected three awards, including Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series.


'American Horror Story' took home various technical awards for costuming, hairstyling, prosthetics and make-up.


Former 'Glee' star Jane Lynch won Outstanding Host for a Reality Show for fronting 'Hollywood Game Night'.


Several acting nominees were also dished out at the awards, which act as a prelude to the big televised Emmy Awards on September 20, with Reg E. Cathey winning Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for 'House of Cards'. 'The Americans' star Margo Martindale won the Guest Actress award.


On the comedy side of things, Bradley Whitford was awarded Outstanding Guest Actor for Amazon's 'Transparent', while Joan Cusack won Outstanding Guest Actress for 'Shameless'.


HBO was also a big winner on the night as Queen Latifah's 'Bessie' won Outstanding Television Movie, 'The Jinx' won Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series and 'Last Week Tonight with John Oliver' won Outstanding Interactive Program.
