Fashion Icon Karl Lagerfeld dies at age 85

The Chanel fashion designer and creative director, Karl Lagerfeld has died at age 85.

He was one of the most admired and multi-talented fashion figures of the modern age.

According to reports, the legend died after a period of ill health. He had missed two of Chanel’s fashion shows in Paris this year. This was the first time that he had ever missed giving a bow on the catwalk at the end of a show.

Karl was president of the iconic fashion house for more than three decades and produced eight collections a year.

He was best known for his signature outfit: a black suit with fingerless gloves and dark glasses.

According to The Evening Standard, the designer was thought to have been working right up until his death, even directing and giving instructions to his team about the Fendi autumn/winter 2019 collection that will show at Milan Fashion Week .

After the news broke, Italian fashion designer, Donatella Versace shared an emotional message to her Instagram with a photo of the two.

"Karl your genius touched the lives of so many, especially Gianni and I. We will never forget your incredible talent and endless inspiration. We were always learning from you," she wrote.

Lagerfeld died on Tuesday morning at a clinic in the Neuilly-sur-Seine area of the French capital, where he was admitted on Monday night. The cause of death has not been released yet.
