Govt assisting SA teenager in China

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation says its working with Chinese authorities to help release a South African teenager
The 19-year-old girl has been behind bars since mid-November.
Her mother reached out to authorities to help with the release of her daughter.
The department's Ndivhuwo Mabaya says the 19-year-old has been detained in Najin after violating visa regulations.

"She got a student visa to travel to China when she arrived there she started teaching and that's why she was arrested," Mabaya says.
Mabaya says they have been in touch with the authorities.
"As you'll understand, the task is to use their own processes which is more complicated than our, but we are aware of it, we are monitoring the case and we are keeping the family involved."
