"It is with great sadness that we share that on 5 August, Bryan Randall passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with ALS," his family shared in a statement to People on Monday.

"Bryan chose early to keep his journey with ALS private, and those of us who cared for him did our best to honor his request."

"We are immensely grateful to the tireless doctors who navigated the landscape of this illness with us and to the astounding nurses who became our roommates, often sacrificing their own families to be with ours." his family added.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a nervous system disease that causes loss of muscle control and worsens over time, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Randall met Bullock in 2015. The couple started dating shortly after meeting each other.

The couple never married, and it's something Bullock spoke about on 'Red Table Talk.'

"I am someone who went through the divorce process. I found the love of my life," she said at the time.

"I don't need a paper to be a devoted partner and a devoted mother."
