Gauteng police have confirmed the arrest of 11 community members in connection with public violence in Pennyville, Soweto.
Residents took to the streets on Friday demanding title deeds to the houses they have been occupying.
Gauteng police spokesperson Kay Makhubele says the situation remains volatile.
“The community members are still protesting inside the compound where they are still burning tyres and throwing stones to the police."
Numerous protests have erupted across the country, including Johannesburg, Tshwane, Emfuleni and Cape Town over service delivery, land and housing.
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
