11 people have been killed in three crashes on Limpopo's roads on Friday night.

Traffic authorities say seven people were killed during a head-on collision in the Waterberg district involving a minibus and a small truck.

The minibus reportedly lost control and drove into oncoming traffic.

This was followed by collisions in Thohoyandou and the Vhembe district in which one and three people were killed respectively.

The provincial traffic department's Matome Moremi says seven other people were also seriously hurt in the third collision.

He says as a result, the death toll on the province's roads since the beginning of the long weekend stand at round 16.

The collision come as traffic volumes continue to increase on major roads in the country.

Authorities and politicians have all called on motorists to be responsible on the roads.
