Six officers from the Brooklyn and Silverton police stations in Pretoria were arrested on Saturday after members of the Mpumalanga Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit received information that the officers had stolen over R30,000 in cash from a group of people passing through a roadblock.

It is understood that the officers also demanded bribes from motorists who failed to provide the correct documentation.

In another incident, five officers were handcuffed for allegedly drinking alcohol at a local tavern in Phuthaditjhaba in the Free State.

Images of the incident have since been widely shared on social media.

In the third incident, an official was detained after he allegedly held a gathering at the police barracks in Soshanguve.

All 12 are expected to appear in various courts soon.
