14 000 learners still without a desk in Gauteng

The Gauteng Department of Education says the lack of documentation from parents who applied late for the placement of Grade 1 and 8 remains a massive headache.

The department's spokesperson Steve Mabona says they have managed to place 2 000 children in the past two days.
When schools re-opened on Wednesday 16 000 learners still needed to be placed.
"Out of the number of people who applied for late registration the majority of them did not submit documents. It is important for parents to submit so that we give them the space," Mabona says.

He a says all parents were given an opportunity to find a school and to submit the necessary documents.
"If you identify a school apply and click the yes on the school. Already provisionally you are placed when you then send documents at the school they will finalise your application."
Mabona says the department is aiming to have all learners placed by the end of the month.
