Updated | By ANA
Sixteen children were injured when a bakkie they were travelling in overturned on the N14 near Brandvlei, West of Johannesburg, paramedics said on Friday.
"When ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene, they found a bakkie lying on its roof on the side of the road. Children from the bakkie were found seated next to the vehicle," ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said.
"Paramedics found that 16 children had sustained minor to moderate injuries when they were ejected off the vehicle when it overturned.
He said the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn and eject the children. The children were treated and transported to hospital.
Meanwhile, twin girls, aged three, died when the bus they were travelling in caught fire on the N3 south in the Free State on Friday afternoon.
Six people sustained serious to critical injuries, after the bus driver lost control of the vehicle, which crashed into an embankment on the N3 between Harrismith and Warden in the Free State.
