Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
Two Reserve Force pilots died on Wednesday morning after their light aircraft crashed at the Swartkop Air Force Base in Pretoria.
Both members were Reserve Force pilots flying for the South African Air Force Museum historical flights.
It's believed the Patchen Explorer aircraft was approaching the runway when it crashed and burst into flames during a scheduled general flying day.
The SAAF’s Mongezi Kweta says the cause of the crash is still unknown.
“An investigation into the fatal crash is currently underway to determine the cause and events that led to the unfortunate fatal crash.”
The Department of Defence and Military Veterans have paid tribute to the fallen pilots, whose names have been withheld.
“The names of the deceased will be published soon after their families have been informed."
