The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) says three miners have died in an underground incident at the Ivan Plats mine in Mokopane, Limpopo.

Details are still sketchy but it seems that the three miners died after a lift rope transporting them underground broke.
Phillip Mankge, National Union of Mineworkers East regional secretary, says the union has been denied access to the scene of the accident.

“The mine has not yet confirmed the incident. Mine rescue services declined to answer detailed questions, but confirmed they were aware of the incident.
“Unconfirmed reports suggest more than five workers were involved.”
