30-Year Review Report vital to understanding past three decades, says Ramaphosa

President Cyril Ramaphosa says the 30-Year Review Report is a vital reference for understanding the past and shaping the future.
Addressing a delegation during the launch of the report in Pretoria, Ramaphosa said that the country is confronted with slow economic growth, high unemployment, poverty, inequality, and underdevelopment.
Ramaphosa said efforts continue to address challenges, including the energy crisis and structural reforms for economic growth.
“The Insights it has generated will inform future government planning and assist us as we work to achieve the vision of the National Development Plan by 2039 and plan for the decades ahead.”
The president described the report as honest and critical, highlighting progress and challenges.
"It is a vital reference for anyone who wants to understand the last 30 years and for everyone who wants to look into our future,” he said.
"It is our hope and expectation that this report will be studied in detail and its findings will be applied.”
Ramaphosa said South Africa is better than it was 30 years ago, and claims that the country is a failed state are wide of the mark.
"I say those with eyes can see that it’s different. Those with ears will hear the real wonderful sounds of the people of our country saying, ‘Yes, our lives have changed’. Guided by a constitution and our bill of rights, successive democratic administrations have implemented progressive policies and programmes to uplift the material conditions of all South Africans.”
