Updated | By ANA
At least 40 children were injured on Monday morning, when a bus and a taxi collided in the Western Cape, said paramedics.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the accident occurred on Lansdown Road in Khayelitsha.
“Paramedics, along with various other services, received the emergency call and responded to the scene,” he said.
Meiring said on arrival paramedics found a school bus lying on its side in the middle of the road with a taxi parked a few metres away.
“Children that had been inside the bus had already started to climb out of their vehicle.”
Paramedics found that roughly 40 children had been injured in the collision, Meiring said.
“Fortunately the children had sustained any minor injuries in this incident.”
Paramedics treated the patients for their injuries while local authorities closed off the road for further safety.
Once the patients were treated, they were transported to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment.
The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
