5 killed after man torches girlfriend’s house

Five people died in the Eastern Cape on Tuesday after a man allegedly torched his girlfriend’s home in Seymour.

Police spokesperson Khaya Tonjeni says the 32-year-old suspect was arrested after he was caught in the act by members of the community.
He is facing five counts of murder.
"The flames were witness by a community member who also saw the suspect allegedly starting the fire,” says Tonjeni.
"He called in members of the community and the 32-year-old man was apprehended and handed over to the police.”

He says the blaze killed the suspect's girlfriend, her mother, sister, 5-month-old nephew as well as a man who was visiting the home.
"Police will not speculate on the motive of the attack as it forms part of the investigation."
The suspect will appear in the Seymour Magistrate’s Court soon.
