5 killed in Eastern Cape storm

A hailstorm in Cala in the Eastern Cape claimed the lives of three children and two men on Sunday.
All five people died after their homes collapsed during the raging storm.
Queenstown police spokesperson Namhla Mdleleni says one woman is recovering in hospital.
“The woman has been taken to hospital to be treated but is still alive. The police have been investigating 5 cases of inquest.”
Some 80 houses were also damaged by the hail.

The local municipality has deployed disaster management services to probe the extent of the damage in the area.
“Part of the responsibilities of part of our own disaster management team is that of ensuring coordination of the relevant departments, your human settlements for instance, your social development who I have been told is there on site as we speak,” says Chris Hani Municipality Mayor Wongama Gela.
