Five people lost their lives in a
crash involving two cars in Polokwane on Saturday night.

The Department of Transport’s Matome Moermi says the driver of a BMW lost control of his car at high speed and crashed head-on into another vehicle.
"As we get the reports it indicates that the vehicle lost control and ended up facing oncoming traffic. That would the vehicle was travelling at a speed which is unacceptable and can be amounted to reckless driving."
Moremi says the driver and four passengers in the BMW were all killed, while the driver of the other car had sustained serious injuries and is recovering in hospital.

"As we start the festive season always drive within the speed limit. If you feel that you are tired rather ask your friend to assist."
Moremi has also urged motorists to not drink and drive.
"From today onwards our traffic officials will be on the road 24/7 trying to curb all these kind of problems that we have been experiencing for the past two months."
