The Pretoria Magistrate’s Court has released 6 people on R5000 bail for fraud, money laundering, corruption and theft related to over R85 million in lost police revenue.
This includes the R56 million police branding case as well as cover quoting of police tenders valued at R29 million.
Colonel Lawrence Thahane, Lieutenant Colonel Tshepo Mashego, administrative clerk Anna Catharina du Preez, as well as civilians Pragalathan Gouden, father and son, Volan Prithviraj and Kumarasen Prithviraj were all granted bail on Monday.
Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority’s Investigating Directorate Sindisiwe Twala says this brings the total number of people arrested to 42.
“It’s alleged that procurement processes were manipulated to favour specific companies, aided by civilians, police officers as well as police administrative staff based in Silverton Pretoria.
All 42 suspects will appear in court on Tuesday.
“They will all be back in court tomorrow 29 September for further investigation, where they will all appear together for the first time,” says Twala.
