74 West Rand pupils in hospital for suspected food poisoning

The Gauteng Department of Health on Thursday confirmed that some 70 pupils were admitted to a hospital in Carletonville.

They are suspected to be suffering from food poisoning.
The pupils. matriculants from Fochville Secondary School, Badirile Secondary School, and Wedela Technical School all attended a matric camp.
On Wednesday, 35 pupils were admitted to a hospital in Malamulele, Limpopo, in another case of suspected food poisoning.
On Sunday, five children from Naledi, in Soweto, died after eating snacks they allegedly bought at a local spaza shop.
Gauteng Health spokesperson Motalatale Modiba said the pupils suffered from stomach cramps and diarrhoea.
"Our healthcare teams are closely monitoring the situation. Fortunately, the learners are mostly in a stable condition.
"The department is particularly concerned by these repeated incidents, and we are working closely with relevant authorities to raise more awareness in communities.
"We remind the public to be vigilant about food safety and ensure the proper handling of perishable and no perishable food items," he added.
