AA: Enjoy the cheaper petrol while it lasts
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
The Automobile Association (AA) has urged motorists to reduce their fuel consumption and save as much as they can, warning that next month's increase in the fuel levy is expected to pile on the pressure.
The AA predicts the price of fuel will drop in March but won't show considerable savings because of next month's fuel levy.
Spokesperson Layton Beard says motorist should however enjoy the relief, as the fuel levy of 52 cents per litre kicks in from April.
"At this stage we predicating that fuel will go down quite considerably going into March. We expect petrol to decrease by around 38 cents, diesel by 47 cents and illuminating paraffin by 26 cents."
Beard attributes the drop in fuel prices to the rand strengthening against the US Dollar and the increase in international oil prices.
"Any decreases we see at the moment need to be saved and motorist need to be aware that fuel is going up in April because of the 52 cents levy. If there are ways you can reduce your fuel consumption you need to do this to save for the month the fuel price is going to go up."
