AA ‘grateful’ for fuel relief extension
In a joint statement released on Tuesday, Ministers of Finance and Mineral Resources and Energy announced the extension of the reduction of R1.50 to the general fuel levy for June.
The reduction of R1,50 in June is meant to provide relief to consumers amid the spike in the price of fuel.
The department announced on Tuesday that petrol will go up by between R2.33 (95) and R2.43 (93) a litre.
Diesel will cost between R1.07 and R1.10 more a litre while illuminating paraffin will increase by R1.56 cents a litre.
In July, the levy will be reduced by 75c before returning to its normal rate of R3.93 in August.
AA spokesperson Leyton Beard says they are grateful to government for stepping in.
"The joint announcement is a welcome development, and we are sure consumers are grateful that government has stepped in with this financial reprieve."
While the relief has been extended, the massive increases to fuel prices for June are still going to hurt consumers and the economy, says Beard.
