‘Absolute rubbish’ that I enabled state capture, says Manyi

Former Government Communications Information System (GCIS) acting CEO and current Jacob Zuma Foundation spokesperson, Mzwanele Manyi has slammed State Capture inquiry findings against him as “absolute rubbish.”
The commission’s first report released by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Tuesday labeled Manyi as an enabler of state capture during his time at the GCIS.
Millions of rands were spent in advertising to the Gupta-owned The New Age newspaper after former president Jacob Zuma fired Themba Maseko as head of the GCIS.
Manyi says the report got it all wrong.
“The Zondo report got it all wrong saying I enabled anything because the fact of the matter is that Director Generals of all various departments and various Heads of Communications make their own decisions about where advertising spends need to go,” he said.
“GCIS simply negotiates for bulk discounts and all of that - we don’t decide where money should be spent. So, the fact that money was spent with TNA it is the DGs of those departments, not me.”
He insists: “To say I enabled state capture is really rubbish, absolute rubbish, no such a thing.”
He adds that the report failed to provide any evidence of the claims.
“The Zondo Commission did not even put an ounce of evidence to corroborate its outland age statement about me, my real crime really is that I am the spokesperson of the most hated person president Zuma,” says Manyi.
