ActionSA’s John Moodey, Gillian Benson resign as Joburg councillors

John Moodey and Advocate Gillian Benson have tendered their resignations as Action SA councillors in the City of Johannesburg.

The announcement follows the party’s “strategic breakaway session” this past weekend.
National Chairperson Michael Beaumont says resignations were tendered on Monday morning.
“Following an enormously successful strategic breakaway session this past weekend, ActionSA agreed that the work of consolidating our structures across all 9 provinces requires a hands-on deck.”
According to Beaumont, Moodey will support the party’s structures across Gauteng.
Benson will focus on strengthening the party’s legal capacity.

“Therefore, John Moodey, in his capacity as ActionSA Gauteng Provincial Chairperson must focus all his efforts on supporting all our structures across Gauteng.
“Advocate Gillian Benson will focus on strengthening our legal capacity at a Senate level and driving the legal and disciplinary issues as they arise. Importantly, Advocate Benson will further be part of our policy team working towards a proposition for the reform of the justice system ahead of 2024.”
“The resignation of John and Gill will afford two potential candidates on our PR list an opportunity to fill their spaces and gain the necessary municipal government experience.”
Both councillors' resignations will be effective on 28 February.
