Advocate Teffo ‘remains in custody’ ahead of possible court appearance

The lawyer representing Advocate Malesela Teffo says there is no truth to reports claiming his client had been released from police custody.
Teffo, who represents four of the accused in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, was taken to the Hillbrow police station following his arrest by heavily armed police officers on Thursday afternoon.
He was arrested shortly after proceedings were adjourned in the High Court in Pretoria.
His attorney Timothy Thobane says they hope he will appear in court on Friday.
“The rumours that he was released yesterday is a lie. They were lying, they are misleading the public he is not yet out. I am on my way to court.”
“The only charge I know is trespassing, there is no charge of assault and today he is facing a charge of failing to appear in court and the issue of trespassing will not be entertained.”
Meanwhile, Police Minister Bheki Cele has requested a full report from National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola Teffo’s arrest.
Teffo has blamed Cele for his arrest.
