#AfricaMonth "A united Africa cannot be defeated"
It's Africa Month and in the spirit of celebrating the continent and its people Jacaranda FM News reporter Slindelo Masikane is speaking to African expats living and working in Gauteng on what it means to be African.
Lizzy Kondowe is born and bread in South Africa, but her roots remain in Malawi. Both her parents are Malawian and family is spread across the continent. Kondowe has managed to work her way up in the corporate world, and is currently Head of Research at Mindshare, a global media and marketing services company.
The 28-year-old says she wouldn't trade her culture for anything, proudly stating: "I'm a Malawian-rooted girl in love with Africa!"
As a South African-born Malawian, she has a front-row seat to both both countries' cultures. She says the sense of arrogance displayed by some South Africans makes her uncomfortable, especially when they clearly think they are better than other Africans.
Kondowe believes it is important that Africans recognise talent, no matter where it comes from. The issue of the recent xenophobic attacks in various townships across the country is also a subject close to her heart.
"The moment we work together as Africans, that's the moment that will better the continent. Unity is key to moving Africa forward."
