AfriForum fails in bid to prevent Rand Water from restricting areas with debt
Updated | By Mapaballo Borotho
The North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria has dismissed an application by AfriForum to interdict Rand Water from reducing water supply to municipalities that owe the water utility.

This comes after AfriForum issued an urgent application for the water utility to be interdicted from restricting or reducing water supply to several municipalities earlier this month.
On the 1st of March, Rand Water advised residents and communities of relevant municipalities of its intention to impose water restrictions due to the non-payment of water bills.
In particular, it advised the Ngwathe and Merafong Municipalities on 24 February 2024, that Rand Water is intending to reduce the water flow by 20% in line with an earlier notice.
The water utility has called on municipalities that owe it millions of rands for water usage, to honor agreements by settling outstanding debts.
