AL-BASHIR APPEAL - The South African government has asked for an extension to respond to the International Criminal Court on why it did not arrest Sudanese President, Omar al-Bashir, when he attended the African Union Summit in Sandton in June.

The North Gauteng High Court ruled in June this year that al-Bashir be arrested and handed over to the ICC. By that time al-Bashir had already left Waterkloof Military Base in what has been seen as an open defiance of the order.
