BULLYING - The Department of Education has called for a speedy investigation into a bullying incident that was apparently allowed by a teacher at the Krugerlaan School in Vereeniging. 


Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi visited the school today meeting with the parents of the learner as well as school management.

ESKOM - Eskom acting CEO Brain Molefe has defended Eskom's application to the National Energy Regulator for an additional electricity price hike of 12.2% on top of the 12.7% that consumers are already paying, saying that the pain will be far less than the damage power cuts would cause to the economy. 


Eskom says it also plans to intensify its maintenance work in order to deal with backlog but that will not result in power interruptions. 


Molefe said they would carry out maintenance on a very large scale. Karabo Ngoepe reports...


 


RAMAPHOSA ANSWERS QUESTIONS IN NCOP - The National Council of Provinces has ruled that Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa may not answer questions about the debacle surrounding the visit of Sudanese president Omar Al-Bashir. 


He was allowed to leave South Africa on Monday, despite an interim High Court order for his arrest on grounds of a warrant by the International Criminal Court. 


This has also been described as a constitutional crisis, with laws not applied by the authorities. 


Ramaphosa was asked about the saga in the NCOP, but Chairperson Thandi Modise said she would not allow any more questions on this issue...


 

 


ANNIVERSARY OF SA DEMOCRACY - As we remember the youth of 1976, we must not forget the significance of the constitution in our democracy. 


This according to Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng who addressed guests attending the 21st anniversary of the constitutional democracy, and the 800th anniversary of the UK Magna Carta. 


Mogoeng urged South Africans to reflect and not forget what others have died for in order to afford us this democracy...
