POLICE have identified the suspected shooter, who shot and killed a reporter and a photographer during a live television broadcast in Virginia in the United States.

 

A manhunt is underway on the interstate highway, for the gunman, believed to be a former disgruntled colleague, who killed 24-year-old Alison Parker and 27-year-old Adam Ward.

SOUTH Africa's mining industry, unions and the government have committed to a broad plan to stem job losses. 

 

This comes as the mining industry is struggling with sinking commodity prices, rising costs and labour unrest.

 

According to Reuters, a draft agreement has been drawn up, following a meeting between the companies and unions.

EFF leader Julius Malema is expected to address students at the Tshwane University of Technology's Soshanguve campus, ahead of tomorrow's Student Representative council elections. 

 

Malema visited the main campus earlier today, where clashes broke out between student organisations SASCO and EFF supporters. 

 

Sasco alleges Malema trespassed, and did not apply to address students on campus. 

 

Several students were hurt in the altercation....

 

 

Students have several demands, and want Malema to take their matters up in Parliament.

 

Violence also broke out at the Soshanguve campus.

 

 

HEALTH minister Aaron Motsoaledi has been discharged from hospital on Wednesday afternoon.

 

Motsoaledi was admitted to the Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria on Sunday to receive treatment for pneumonia. The minister's spokesperson Joe Maila says he will now continue his recovery at home. 

 

 

SOUTH Africa won gold at the World Athletics Championship. Wayne van Nieker became the first African 400m runner in almost a century to win a major global title. He posted the sixth fastest time in history clocking 43.48s to claim the title.
