AG: Funding is to blame for delays in project delivery
Updated | By Silindelo Masikane
Auditor General, Kimi Makwetu says the lack of funding is in many instances to blame for delays in project delivery.
Makwetu released three performance audits dealing with management of pharmaceuticals, water & urban renewal projects yesterday.
Performance audits assess whether government is doing the right thing in the least expensive way.
Makwetu found significant funding constraints in urban renewal projects in Gauteng and says government needs to be more practical when it comes to drawing up budgets.
"Many of them were announced with huge budgets before the money was secured. So what you found was that people had an expectation that there was going to be big projects in areas like Winterveld and Burgersdal, but none of those money came forward," he said.

Reporting on delivery of water to citizens, the Auditor General highlighted a lack of succession planning in areas of water engineering and scientists.
He also revealed that 63% of health institutions don't record patient details and medicines dispensed to them.
